There was another busy weekend for our teams with some very good performances thrown in. The Barton Shield made it to the semi-final of their Regional Qualifier at Baltinglass before bowing out to the host club and eventual winners in a close encounter. The team was made up of Robbie Farrell, Alan Furness, Derek Ronan & Michael Ryan.
The Cullen Trophy opened their account with a good win over a strong Cahir Park team. Eamon Dungan & Margaret Furlong, Ger Ronan & Pat Purcell and Jim Byrne & Ger Mackey recorded the wins that saw the side into the next round where they meet the winners of the match between The Curragh and Arklow.
The South Leinster team bowed out at the hands of Knockanally who made home advantage count in a 4-3 win. Harry Reinhardt recorded a great win away from home, with Willie Keilthy & John Somers both winning at home.
The All Ireland Fourball team pulled off a great win over Waterford. Patsy Farrell & Luke Power won at home adding to great away wins by Martin Forristal & Steve Travis and Robert O’Dwyer & Leo Booth to decide the tie in New Ross’ favour. Junior Cashin & Denis Kirwan’s charges meet Coolattin in the Fourth Round.
Next Saturday, May 28th, the Barton Cup meet Mount Juliet at 2pm. There are three matches in New Ross and two at the Thomastown venue. Best of luck to all involved.
Entries are currently being taken for the Men’s Fourball Matchplay. Entries cost €15 per pair. To enter put your name and contact number on an envelope containing the entry fee, and clearly marked ‘Fourball Matchplay’ and place it in the Men’s Competition box. The closing date for entries is Tuesday May 31st.
New Ross Golf Club Pro Am – Friday July 15th
The 3rd New Ross Golf Club Pro Am takes place on Friday July 15th and is once again very generously sponsored by Culcita Garden Furniture & Outdoor Living. Entries cost €300 per team of 3 and individual entries (€100) are also being taken. The first two Pro Ams at New Ross have proven to be very successful and enjoyable for all who took part. To enter, or for further information, please contact James or Paul in the Pro Shop.
The Gardening Group has been up and running for the last number of weeks and will continue to do work right through the summer months. The group are carrying out various projects like weeding & trimming of shrubs and flower beds, and general tidying up of the car park area. It is hoped that some members can take on particular projects that they can carry out when it suits them. All help and support is welcome and if you would like to get involved please contact JJ Hoyne.
Restaurant is taking bookings for all types of occasions
Don’t forget that the restaurant takes bookings for all occasions – birthdays, christenings, communions, anniversaries and funerals – and the bar and catering team are happy to meet a wide range of requirements. If you have any queries on bookings, please contact the club on 051 421433. The very popular Sunday Lunch special (4 courses for €15) continues and booking is advised.
