Turkey Singles

A real sign that Christmas is just round the corner is that the Turkey Singles start tomorrow, Monday November 17th.  It is a 9h Singles Stableford competition over the First 9 only.  Members can play Monday to Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  Entry costs €4 and a new competition will start every 20 entries.  To enter, put your name in the competition book and pay your entry fee in the Pro Shop before commencing your round.  If the Pro Shop is closed when you are starting, please leave a note at the Pro Shop and pay when you finish.  Placing everywhere (except, of course, within a hazard) within 6 inches is permitted for the Turkey Singles.

Thank you to the outgoing members of the committee (Seamus McGuinness , Jim Meggs, Andrew Ryan & John Whelan) for their hard work and dedication.

Men’s Competitions Survey

Thank you to all who completed the Competitions Survey.  We received a great response and will be analysing the results over the coming weeks.   The aim of doing the survey was to make our competitions better for all our members.  If you have any feedback about the competitions – positive or negative, Competition Secretary Bob Doyle would welcome your views.

GUI – Handicap Survey

What do your members think of the current handicapping system?

The GUI are offering golfers the opportunity to provide them with their views on the CONGU Unified Handicapping System. This survey is being rolled out across all the Home Unions to gather opinions and views.

The feedback will be presented to the CONGU Board for consideration of any changes and/or developments in the next edition
n of the CONGU UHS Manual.

Closing date for responses is 21 November and all golfers completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a fantastic overnight stay at Carton House Hotel with a round of golf for four people included.  You can complete the survey on the following link:

Adopt a Green

There are still a small number of spots left for volunteers in the “Adopt a Green” scheme.  Thank you to those who have already put their names forward.  The scheme gives members the opportunity to take ownership of an aspect of course maintenance.  Volunteering involves repairing pitchmarks on a particular green and raking the greenside bunkers every time you play.  To volunteer, put your name on the “adopt a green” sheet in the bar (near the computer).  There will be a prize every month for the most improved green/bunkers.

Paying Next Year’s Subscription

Now is a good time to consider making some down payments on your subscription for next year to avoid having to pay the whole amount in March.  You can make payments towards next year’s subscription at any time in the bar using you GUI Card.  You can choose how much you’d like to pay and make as many payments as you want – just ask any of the bar staff for details.

Find the Joker

Lightning struck twice as the ‘Campile Early Birds’ won the Find the Joker Draw for the second week running.  The card drawn from envelope no. 50 was the Jack of Clubs and the jackpot is now €4,499.  The next draw takes place on Sunday November 23rd at 5pm.  Entries cost €2 and are taken in the bar.  Thank you to all who support this fundraiser.
