The Senior Cup team were in action in their regional qualifying event in Waterford this weekend. They faced The Heritage in their opening match and pulled off a very impressive 4-1 victory, against a team that featured the former Irish international footballer Niall Quinn. The prize for winning the tie was a match against a very strong Rosslare team. The Rosslare side proved to be too strong, as they turned in some excellent golf to win the tie and went on to beat Kilkenny in the final and will be the regional representatives in the Leinster finals later in the year. The New Ross team was made up of Alan Furness, Donal Hosey, Derek Ronan, Andrew Ryan, Michael Ryan Jnr & Ronan Whelan.
All of our teams have now exited their events and Captain Paschal Bolger would like to sincerely thank each individual who was involved during the year – players, managers, those who took part in trials, caddies and those who supported the teams. We can be very proud of our teams this year, many of them losing out by very narrow margins, and the hard work that was put in this year will hopefully pay dividends in the next couple of years.
Entries are now being taken for the Singles Matchplay. To enter, put your name and contact number on an envelope, with the entry fee enclosed (€5) and place it in the Men’s Competition Box. The closing date for entries is Sunday 6th July. The deadline for completion of the First Round of the Fourball Matchplay is June 30th.
