When the decision was taken to run the Pro Am, the intention was (1) to raise the profile of the club at a regional & national level, (2) to create a buzz about the club and run an event that all the members of the club could get behind and (3) at a minimum run the event on a break even basis.
On the third count, we’re delighted to report that the event will turn a profit. The Pro Am has already received a great amount of coverage in the local & national press and will continue to do so over the next few days. Having spoken to the professionals who played and the PGA organisers, we are confident that the 50 members of the PGA involved will be sending out a very positive message about our club. The feedback from the PGA was positive in the extreme, not only about our course and greens but also about the organisation of the event and the tremendous support that the members showed on the day in volunteering and spectating.
Thank you to all who entered teams, who volunteered on the day, who came up to watch – it contributed greatly to the atmosphere for the event. Seamus Power and his team have been doing brilliant work on the course for many many years, and pulled out all the stops for the Pro Am. When the top professionals in the country tell you that our greens are some of the best they’ve played on in the past few years, it makes you appreciate what we have all the more – thank you Seamus & team.
Thank you to James Roche & Paul Morris – they put a huge effort in to the event, getting teams to enter and passing on valuable knowledge on how to run such an event. Thank you also to the PGA, they were indeed professional from start to finish in running the Pro Am. Padraig Murphy & his team put in a huge shift, catering for over 200 people on the day and somehow managing to raise nearly €1,000 for the club in the raffle. Thanks also to Anthony & Aishling in the bar who also put in a very hard day’s work.
The event would not have happened without the support of our sponsor, Culcita Ltd. Thank you to Paschal Bolger, Noel Whelan and their team for their extremely generous support.
From start to finish, New Ross put its best foot forward yesterday – well done to all involved. We hope that with your support that this will be the first of many Pro Ams at New Ross Golf Club.
We’ll be uploading the photos from the day on to the website in the next couple of days.
