Congratulations to the JB Carr Team who recorded a remarkable victory over Wexford in the County Final  After nine holes, it looked all but over, with Wexford well ahead.  Somehow, New Ross clawed their way back into the match.  Jim Meggs & Patsy Farrell won their match on the 16th, with Denis Kirwan & Willie Whitty pulling off a great victory on the 18th.  Sean Murphy & Robert O’Dwyer and Dan Quigley & Johnny Hosey went down fighting to strong golf from the home team, leaving the outcome hinging on John Dowling & Hugh O’Connor’s match.  They staged a brilliant comeback and won their match on the 19th to secure the County title for New Ross.  Well done to all the team and their manager, Peter Goggin.  New Ross face the Waterford champions in the next round.

Hughie O'Connor, John Dowling & Denis Kirwan take a well deserved rest after their win!

Hard luck to the Fred Daly Trophy team who travelled all the way to Glen of the Downs Golf Club last week.  They finished in a very creditable 4th position in their regional qualifier, but only the top 2 go through to the matchplay stages.

There is a very busy weekend ahead for our teams.  On Saturday afternoon, the Barton Cup take on Kilkenny in their second round clash, they have three matches at home and two in Kilkenny.  The Duggan Cup team face Courtown, also in the second round, with two matches in New Ross and three away.  The Cullen Trophy team are in first round action, away at Mount Wolseley.   On Sunday afternoon, the Brennan Cup team take on Enniscorthy in Enniscorthy.  Best of luck to all the teams.

Pro Am

It’s less than two weeks to the Pro Am now.  It takes place on Friday May 16th.  If you have already entered but not paid your entry fee, please do so as soon as possible as a cheque must be paid to the PGA for the prize money in advance of the event.  If you would like to take part, there are a small number of places available for teams and individuals.  We are still seeking volunteers to do some small jobs on the day.  Please contact James or Paul in the Pro Shop for more details.

Congratulations to Michael Ryan

Congratulations to Michael Ryan for his selection on the Darren Clarke Academy team as they seek to defend their UK Schools & Colleges Golf title at the beautiful Ganton Golf Club next week.  Michael is fresh from competing against the under 21s at the Munster Youths Amateur Open in Dungarvan last week and will be in action for New Ross in the Barton Cup next weekend – busy times!

Course Upkeep

The New Ross Golf Club Pro Am is less than two weeks away. The Pro Am is an opportunity for the club to showcase itself to around 50 professionals from all over the country. We will be doing our utmost to ensure that the course is in peak condition. You can do your part by making an extra effort to repair pitch-marks (your own and others), replace divots, rake bunkers and pick up litter on the course.
