The presentations for the PGA Tankard will take place on Tuesday April 1st at 8.15pm sharp. Remember, you need to attend or be represented at the presentation in order to receive your prize. The draw for the April Medal (Sun 13th Apr), sponsored by Wallaces Hardware & Garden Centre Wellingtonbridge will take place after the presentation.
Entries are now being taken for the Men’s Foursomes Matchplay. If you want to enter please put your names, entry fee (€15 per pair) and contact number on an envelope and put it in the Men’s Competitions Box in the bar. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 1st April.
We are still waiting on our Handicap Software provider to resolve a glitch in relation to the print outs of handicaps for the notice board in the Men’s Locker-room. The handicap lists on the Notice Boards are out of date. You can check your current handicap on the computers in the bar or pro shop and online at:
The first two teams into action this year will be the Barton Cup and Irish Mixed Teams. The Barton Cup team take on Mount Juliet on Sunday April 6th at 3pm (3 matches at home, 2 away), whilst the Irish Mixed face a tricky tie against Borris on Friday April 11th at 3.15pm (2 matches at home, 3 away). The teams and managers are encouraging all members to show up and support the matches. (Remember if you’re out watching a match you cannot give advice to any of the players involved).
A reminder to members, as the season gets into full swing, that if you are playing golf in a competition away from New Ross, whether in a society or otherwise, that you have a duty to report your away scores to the handicap secretary. Here’s the requirement as detailed in the CONGU Handicap Manual (Section 8.12):
In Ireland, players and clubs must report to Home Clubs:
(a) All Qualifying Scores together with the relevant Competition Scratch Score.
(b) All Non-Qualifying Scores from Team and Society Golf played over a course for which the Union has allotted a Standard Scratch Score together with notification of the relevant SSS.
All golfers should make themselves familiar with Section 8, “Responsibilities of the Player”
25 of the wooden lockers in the Men’s Locker Room are being made available to members. The cost to rent the locker for one year is €30. If you are interested in renting out a locker for the year please put €30 euro into one of the small brown envelopes with your name, contact number and the word “Locker” on it, and place it in the Men’s competition box. The closing date for applications is Friday 4th April. Lockers will be allocated on a first come first served basis, but if there are more than 25 applications before the closing date a draw will take place to decide the allocation.
There are now less than 10 places left in the Pro Am. If you would like to take part, please contact James or Paul in the Pro Shop as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The Pro Am takes place on Fri May 16th and the organisers are seeking volunteers to work as starters and marshals on the day. Please contact James or Paul if you are willing to volunteer.
